The Platform Compression Scorecard

Seventy percent of organizations track API volume. Less than ten percent track API business value. In that gap is where compression happens. Score your organization on the five signals that actually predict it — from the book Platform Economies. New to the topic? Start with What Is a Platform Economy?

How it works

Score each signal category from 1 to 5. One means critical vulnerability. Five means resilient strength. Then look at the shape: a symmetrical shape with nothing below 3 means you are reading the signals. A spiky shape with a score at 1 marks your blind spot — and the blind spot is where the attack will come.

Trajectory beats position: low scores that are improving are healthier than high scores that are declining.

This is a diagnostic, not a maturity model. There is no perfect score — the question is whether you are measuring motion or measuring direction.

From the book Platform Economies

The scorecard is one tool from Part Six, "Building Your Platform Economy". The book covers the three rule shifts behind compression — efficiency over headcount, value over volume, platforms over features — and what to do when you see the signals. Launching September 1, 2026.
